“I slept in castles and fell in love because I was taught to dream…” — Taylor Swift
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…It really is!
Sometimes, all you need to get that tingly festive feeling is just one sparkly evening with one of your besties; surrounded by a sea fairy lights, warm pretty colours, and a mountain of caramel/Baileys/Tiramisu flavoured fudge (These exist. I kid you not – keep scrolling) and oh, let’s not forget something hot chocolate-y and warm…
So, did somebody say Christmas Market?!
“Clustered along the riverbank, the market’s wooden chalets are filled with festive food, drink, gifts and treats…”
Oh London stop showing off, you.
To the Southbank we go! This was honestly the nicest possible way to finish off a long, hard day spent slaving 4 hours in the library on a single statistics task that should really have only taken half the time it did…
Have you ever felt like somebody was pushing a pair of chopsticks into your temples as hard as is humanly possible for 3 hours non-stop? Your computer is frozen because the software you need is being a sloth? Not to mention that you’ve lost all of your work 3 times, and you’ve had to redo everything twice that amount anyway because step no. 2 keeps being wrong?! Well that, precisely, = statistics to someone who can’t deal with numbers (ME); headaches and mind boggling hell, surrounded by people who managed to finish everything 2 hours ago. Man, I was so grateful for Joanna and fudge mountains and Southbank yesterday evening… Geography degrees are mean.
We actually visited this same market last year when we were out for Joanna’s birthday, but I didn’t even bring my camera?! I was kicking myself for ages afterwards, since it is so ridiculously beautiful. Although yesterday was only the 2nd day of trade so not everything had been set up yet, we were really keen for some escapism!
We also randomly ran into some old guy somewhere amidst this amazing forest that was sparkly Christmas trees. He must have been like, 70? And we didn’t know him…but for some reason, he was utterly adamant that he was going to get us a photo together. So yeah, around 10 whole minutes later, following much camera fiddling + *what should have been* a couple of photos later, he waves goodbye and we check the camera to realize that…he didn’t even manage to take a single photograph. 10 entire minutes…really?! But honestly, the whole experience was so hilarious that we didn’t even care! We didn’t have the heart to break it to him. Old people can be too loveable for their own good (Below is a picture of the tree we were hoping to get a picture in front of – pretty, right?)
Joanna also announced that she had been abstaining from Costa Coffee for the whole month so far so that she could share her first Christmas coffee with me. If that’s not cute, then I don’t know what is! <3 (Here she is):
“One Black Forest Latte and one Brownie Hot chocolate please” = the happiest moment of the day!
In case you were wondering, warm, milky, and rich hot chocolate = perfect for fudge dippage. DO IT!
And right now, I’m pretty much under the impression that this pretty stretch of the Thames is only going to get even more beautiful as the month goes and Christmas begins to settle in a little more heavily! (If that’s even possible)
And if these photos alone can’t push you into making a visit to Southbank Christmas market this season, then maybe the giant chocolate fountains, French burgers, churro stalls + crepe stands that we spotted down there will?! There are so many cute little nick-knacks and wonderful opportunities for festive photos in the sea of shimmery lights, so go go go!
The market is open from 10am-9pm every day, and it’s only going to get busier as the month goes on! Visiting in the evening when it’s dark is highly recommended also. Find yourself some coffee or hot chocolate straight away to keep your hands warm as you walk around (A trick we learnt last year), and just inhale the amazing sweet wafts floating out of each passing stall! It’s a lovely evening out, and there are plenty of places around to walk to/eat at if you’re still hungry to explore. Leicester sq is 8-10 minutes over the bridge and the Southbank centre has so many warm and cosy cafes and restaurants. What are you waiting for?! Merry premature Christmas!!
And P.S. Good luck resisting the fudge mountain…you can’t.
41 days to go!
Is anyone going to be in London this month?! Have you got the Christmas feeling yet? And while we’re here: do you like Taylor swift’s new song Blank Space too?! I am so hooked and I can’t even explain why. I’ve loved this girl since her Tim McGraw days – so even if she has moved from burning pictures to being a psycho, fairy-tale princess, she cannot produce a bad piece of music IMO! #TEAMTAYLOR
You know how much I love to hear what’s on your mind in the comments. Have a great week guys!
